Narrated by Ram Dass.
I visited the ashram in Thiruvannamalai on my second trip to India. Amazing. I want to go back.
It really is so simple. Really. ![]()

Cathartic musings and occasional rants about my trips to India to study my heart's passion, and my sweet adventures along the yoga path..."yoga is about Life." — T. Krishnamacharya
MINDFULNESS BEGINS NOW
Mindfulness is a technique in which you become aware of your relationship to your experience in the present moment
THANK YOU BLESSED READERS!
" I AM LOVIN' YOUR BLOG - no bullshit and lots of frank musings." (Lucy Edge, author of Yoga School Dropout )
"Congratulations on a very creative, positive, and authentic blog that represents the true spirit of the yoga journey, inner and outer. You have a vivid, natural voice and a passionate knowledge of your subject, which should carry you a long way if you choose to direct your energies toward print publication." (Anne Cushman, author of Enlightenment for Idiots)
"I think [you] set an example of how self-respect and respect for others are not opposed to each other. I know so many people who think that if you do Yoga, you're not allowed to get angry, to shout for your rights, or to put someone in their place if need arises. I like your blog because it helps me understand how the great and the small, the powerful and the humble, love for oneself and for others are essentially the two sides of one medal and how this union can be lived. In that sense, your name "sama" truly fits you."
"10x the soul, courage and adventure of Eat, Pray, Love. With your humor and sharpness you're at a different level - ripe to write the "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" of yoga books!"
"By its very humanity, some of the most spiritual writings I have encountered. I return often to help center me."
"A deep bow of gratitude for your insightful, hilarious, brilliant, tell-it-like-it-is yoga blog. Back in the '60's Paul Krassner used to say that one dose of LSD dissolved 99 times its weight in excess (un)reality and I think one of your truth-telling blog entries ("Get Real" being a recent favorite) probably counteracts an entire issue of Yoga Journal spandex materialism. You're an inspiration."
"You are one of the few who doesn't bring up the heat and cows when writing about India. You somehow balance your respect and love for Indian traditions with the necessary irreverence making it honest and touching."

MY INDIA
Crows
cows
painted elephants
starving pups that won’t live the week
Begging children
laughing children
in just pressed clothes
run to touch you
giggling girls and
one pen boys
Mango eaters
stone cutters
coconut choppers
bucket sellers
tout screamers
Traffic
chaos
walk
run
jump out of the way
of the family on the scooter
baby on the gas tank
Beggars with one eye
beggars with no legs
women dressed in gold
and rainbow saris
gliding in the streets
unbroken
straight
cool
Dust
dirt
sweat
mixed with jasmine flowers
scenting my hair
Music of the people
for the people
cars honk all day
every day
every night
laughing
crying
spitting
fighting
chanting
om kali ma
om muruga
temple music wakes me
temple music to sleep by
Healing
yoga
ayurveda
pure yoga
from the heart
this is the heart
of yoga
Birth
life
death
on the streets
go with the flow
or you go crazy
I’ve seen the
dead men walking

Blogs Gone Wild!

2 OMs:
Thank you for sharing this. It brought back memories. I studied in this town in the college right opposite to this Ashram. I had opportunities to go and do meditation when there were no classes making friends get irritated, coz they'd always wanted to go for movies. I'll stay back when they all go for movies. That was around 15 yrs back.
Tks for sharing this :-)
Om Shanti
