I've got a secret -- and it's not deodorant

Amazingly I received the link to this video from a friend in India who saw it in the Washington Post -- "The Dirty Little Secrets of Yoga Teachers." Or, the light in me honors the stink in you.

I don't know which is worse: the smelly butts or the creepy dude yoga teacher. "Savasana massages"? I don't want anyone touching me in savasana! Let me guess...he only massages the young and the skinny.

He just looks like the sort of dude that pretends to be all humble, while at the same time using 'I'm a yoga teacher' as a pick up line. Blergh!

I have a teacher who gently pushes my shoulders down in the start of savasana, and I really, really like it. Then she leaves me be.

But a massage? From creepy dude? Ew!

Ewwww. I don't want to be massaged while in savasana from anyone, let alone a creepy yoga guy. The teacher in one of DVDs does this, didn't notice for a long time until I happened to have my eyes open. I thought it was weird, so I asked my yoga teacher friend of that was normal, and she said it depended in the teacher. Some students like i guess, but I will never do it.

oh my. that was interesting. the creepy yoga dude needs to get real. and is the reason why i don't feel comfortable with ANY sort of massage, at all, during savasana. sigh.

I did especially like the fart story- her laugh was just so honest and real. That part reminded me that yoga instructors are human too. Although, the wiping bum part was a little much.

This was very enjoyable, Linda. Thanks for posting it.

All the Buddhas in the Yoga studio reminded me of another question I wanted to ask you, unrelated to the video.

What are the 2-3 most uplifting Buddhist texts you would recommend?

I just read the Dhammapada, just because Eknath Easwaran includes it in a trio with the Gita and the Upanishads, both of which I find absolutely exhilarating.

The Dhammapada, in contrast, left me flat, no, make that somewhat repelled. I finally figured out it was because it reminded me of the ultra repressive Catholic orthodoxy I was raised in.

The myths and symbols are different, but the message is the same--holiness comes from total repression of all our natural human tendencies, best achieved by isolating oneself from ordinary life. (I thought seriously about going straight to the seminary when I was in 8th grade.)

Surely there must be some other Buddhist texts that would be more to my liking. Or perhaps Buddhism is just not for me, for the same reason traditional Catholicism isn't.

Thanks for your help.

That man should be embarrassed. Not only is he inappropriate in the creepy realm...but smelling like alcohol? Ughhh teachers like that give us all a bad name. What a bum.
